Fire Horse Cane Corso… why the name “Fire Horse” you ask? Our search for an apt name took us to the Far East. The Chinese zodiac is made up of animals representing different personality traits. In addition to the animals, there are also elements further describing the year’s new offspring. When you combine the fire and the horse, you get a stubborn, intense, over-achiever type. Perfect!
We are a small hobby breeder of authentic Italian Cane Corso, located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA. Our mission is to preserve and further the rustic Italian Cane Corso form, function and temperament… to always work toward the “total package”. We will NOT follow trends. Our dogs must be able to hold their own in the forests, hills and pastures, in the show ring, on the trial field, and in the family home. We are active in conformation showing, obedience and protection training and we participate in a variety of dog sports. In October 2005, we hosted the first all-Cane Corso working event in the USA, the 2005 Corso Throwdown, in conjunction with the 2005 ICCF National Specialty.
We plan our breedings with specific goals in mind, in order to produce dogs that properly represent the breed and take us closer to the ideal Corso. Most of all, we breed to create our next young prospect. A Fire Horse Cane Corso is bred to retain the stable and protective temperament that is typical of the breed. We also place a tremendous emphasis on the health of our dogs. Our pups are handled, nurtured, stimulated and socialized from birth in order to maximize their mental and physical development potential. They are an indispensable part of our family and we expect that one of our pups would be a loved and loving member of your family, as well. We place our pups only with families that we feel can offer this type of care and commitment.
About the breed:
The Cane Corso (pronounced Kha-nay Kor-so) represents a great deal of history to the farmers of the southern Italian countryside. This is where they were shaped over the centuries into the breed that we know today. These are working dogs, versatile by necessity. A Cane Corso is not for everyone. This is a large, dominant breed dog and must be treated as such in order to achieve harmony in your home. I consider the Corso an “enthusiast” breed… this is not the dog to get if you simply want a furry companion. With that said, if you are up to the task, few dogs are as rewarding to own. A Corso will bond closely with his owner and will be an awesome protector of his home and family.
We have chosen to base our program on some classic Italian Cane Corso lines and with the help of some of the best breeders that have gone before us, we are doing just that. Thanks to Wendy and Clay Burns of Apex Cane Corso, Sarka and Radek Bajerova of Machova kraje / Of Bajer and Luigi Di Rienzo of Valle Dei Lord, we have the raw materials to build our future. Grazie!
